Filmed on location in Durango Mexico, the film starred Jeffrey Hunter as Little Dog. He would wear a loincloth again the same year as Matuwir in "The Seven Cities of Gold".
Cast as a US cavalary officer is Noah Berry Jr., who had once worn a loincloth in the role of a tarzan-like jungle hero in 1935's "Call of the Savage" - a 12 chapter cliffhanger serial.
Iron Eyes Cody appears in an uncredited role as an Indian Chief. He is perhaps best known as the Native American who sheds a tear for the US environment in the many "Keep America Beautiful" ads that ran in the 70's and 80s.
At the time of release, this film was unusual for it's sensitive and realistic portrayal of the American Indian.
