Filmed on location in India and Thailand, this was the first film to take Tarzan out of Africa. It was directed by John Guillermin ("Tarzan's Greatest Adventure").
Jock Mahoney was the screen's 13th actor to portray Tarzan. He had previously appeared in "Tarzan The Magnificent" starring Gordon Scott.
At the age of 42, Mahoney was the oldest actor to be cast as Tarzan. At 6 feet, 4 inches, 215 pounds, Mahoney did all of his own stunts (except for diving out of a plane in the film's opening scene).
