Croatian actor Goran Visnjic stars in this two-part made-for-televison adapation which follows the 1951 novel by Howard Fast more closely than the better known 1960 film version.

Appearing as Gannicus, actor Paul Telfer would star the following year in the title role of the 2005 two-part television mini-series Hercules.

Jack Huston (as Flavius) would later land the lead role of Judah Ben-Hur in the 2016 theatrical film adapation of Ben-Hur.

This was the last role for English actor Alan Bates (cast as Agrippa) who passed in 2003 at the age of 59.
