A Spanish expedition to California (in search of the mythical cities of gold) encounters conflicts with the Native Americans.

Based on the book The Nine Days of Father Serra by Isabelle Gibson Ziegler which was published in 1951.

Directed by Robert D. Webb the film stars Richard Egan (Mission to Glory), Anthony Quinn (Seminole) and Michael Rennie (The Lost World).

Cast in the role of Matuwir, actor Jeffrey Hunter had previously appeared the same year as Little Dog in White Feather (also directed by Robert D. Webb).

Also appearing is Rita Moreno, who would later be cast with former Tarzan actor Lex Barker in 1957's The Deerslayer.

Mexico locations used in filming included Guadalajara, Jalisco and the hills close to Manzanillo, Colima.
